Family Outing (2001/I) Short movie – 5 min

Director: Ben McCormack
Country: Australia
Runtime: 5 min

Leo Bradley … Dad
Michael Churven … Boy
Rhett Mansel … Attendant

This short film was made on location at Brisbane, Australia’s “Wet (gay men’s) Spa and Sauna”. It is well paced and very nicely directed, edited and acted – with a cast of notable and talented local thespians. Filmed in subdued tones – reflecting the inherent low-lit ambiance of a venue which is meant to enable the illusion (and perhaps security) of anonymity in casual sexual encounters, we discover that this illusion presents a tenuous level of moral security.

This exact scenario is lampooned in the 2006 USA comedy “Another Gay Movie” – and while “Family Outing” was almost certainly made with “tongue in cheek”, it was very nearly a lot more than that.
