  • I’m on the opposite coast (North Carolina), but I’m tremendously sympathetic to the plight of youngsters like the boy in this video. I’ve been helping to get them on their feet for 40 years. Contrary to the opinions expressed in the video that precedes these comments, I don’t find that gay youth from the east coast migrate to Los Angeles. Many of them can’t afford much in the way of travel. Most of them are afraid to turn to prostitution for travel money, and they’re even more afraid to hitch hike for fear of being exploited or otherwise taken advantage of. They’re usually without contacts anywhere other than here. North Carolina isn’t a particularly friendly state to come out in. There are few help agencies to provide support. I always get the opinion that North Carolina would be just as glad to have our gay population relocate to other states so that they wouldn’t have to worry about coming up with funds to provide counseling services, food, housing, and medical treatment. These youngsters need help here. I’d not like to take the states’ position that they can export their troubles, nor your position that they need to go to the west coast for assistance. RobtheElder
